Fun but more expensive than it is worth July 26, 2010 D. Infeld (Virginia) It is a fun way to learn some new and unusual words, but doesn't keep our attention as much as Trivial Persuit, Quiddler, or Scrabble.
Great Language Arts FUN Game! June 15, 2010 M. Patterson (Japan) I bought this game probably about 18 years ago. It was one of the first family games I ever purchased & we still have a blast playing it.
Growing up we didn't have a lot of money so we played a lot of word games: Unscramble words, List Rhyming Words, Find as many words in this word as you can etc. So when I found this game I was thrilled at the nostalgic value it brought me but as a family it also became a very educational game.
Basic Concept
There is a hidden word & by landing on the right location & answering the question correctly you get to look at a letter. When you know the word before someone else does you win.
Game Play
Move around the board, land on a symbol and answer a question related to that symbol.
There are four topics:
Spelling:
You have to spell the word. Usually this is a typical word but often misspelled due to something small.
Definition:
You have to decide the definition of a word. You get multiple choice here. Often less common words but with multiple choice not too difficult.
Scrambled Word:
This is where there will be a common six (I believe) letter word that is mixed up & you have to figure out what it is.
Hodge-Podge:
Hodge-Podge can be a few different things. It can be a famous quote you have to fill in the blank. It might be an acronym that you have to say what the letters stand for. It could be listing 10 - 12 words that rhyme with another word or 10 - 12 words that end or start with certain letters. Or it may be a long word that you have to find 10 - 12 little words using the letters in it.
Over all this is a really fun educational game. However, if you are an excellent speller with a higher vocabulary this may not be much of a challenge for you unless you fold under pressure because you are timed. I am sure there are some ways you might make it more challenging if you are creative.
If you want it just as a fun family game or to offer something that will help your children with their vocabulary & spelling this is a really fun option.
In the 18 years we have had it, and the tons of games I have purchased since then this is still one of my favorites. I think ScattergoriesScattergories is about the only one that has it beat in my book.
The Game was a Hit! January 9, 2009 W. Gittemeier The game "Huggermugger" was for my daughter to give as a gift. The family that wanted it had played this game alot and wanted one again. From what I have heard they LOVED it!

Fantastic Game! December 29, 2007 K. Hyndman 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this game for years, and every time we play it with company, it's a huge hit. It is a wonderful way to fine tune your word/spelling knowledge. Lots of fun!!!
