Not used often July 12, 2010 Lincoln V. Webbeking (Seattle, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I loved Catan, and think the Cities and Knights expansion is a lot of fun too. However, it's pretty rare to find 5-6 people who all are experienced enough at Catan to want to play the expansion version, and the time requirement (often more than two hours) can be an issue too. More often we play with a small group of fans and don't need the expansion, or just play the regular Catan with that expansion. But if you've got a group of hard-core Catan fans that are willing to play for hours, this could be great fun.
Overall Great Game May 7, 2010 J. Wakeman This is only the extension for the main game Cities and Knights (which means to play with 6 people you need Settlers of Catan, the 5-6 Extension for Catan, Cities and Knights, and then finally this 5-6 Extension for C&K). Once you get to that point, C&K really comes alive, not only does it expand so much on the original game, with 6 people it is just amazing all the game-play there is. If you can get past the somewhat pricey cost of the games it is really worth it! I have yet to have a problem with the games' quality (things breaking) but with the small pieces something could get lost easily. The 5-6 extension is made with the same materials as the standard edition--high quality and great detail. Finally I will say I am very pleased Mayfair Games overall; the one time I had to contact their customer service I was met with a quick, friendly response and the solution to my problem (within barely a day i got an email response!). Great games and service, can't get much better than that!
Fun Game April 14, 2010 Christy (Minneapolis, MN USA) Super fun game! I bought Settlers of Catan and the Cities & Knights expansion, along with teh 5-6 player extensions for both games. A super fun way to spend an evening with family & friends! I hear it's kind of like Risk (which I've never played) - but better, because everyone is playing until the end, no one is kicked off, or eliminated, during the game. Always something to learn with the game, always a different twist, always a different way to win. So Fun!
Great game, check the edition February 12, 2010 David DeWelt (Joplin, MO United States) I LOVE this game and could play it for days on end. The expansion makes playing with 5-6 people not only possible, but much more fun with the expanded board and additional colored settlements, cities, roads, etc. for more players. One word of caution: make sure you know which edition of Settlers you begin with. Mayfield has updated the board from the original (and even a second time after that) and while the main pieces fit together fine, the graphics are different and the boarder pieces don't fit together at all. I bought an older version of the basic game and Cities and Knights a few years ago, then decided to get the 5-6 player expansions for both and didn't notice I'd ordered the newer edition. Its still playable, just a little distracting.
Catan the Game January 28, 2010 Donnie This is a great family game. We have enjoyed playing with other adults and children. It teaches children strategy and it has healthy competition. It is nice to play a game that is not full of violence and negativity.
