Seeing that these sets can run you into the thousands, we were looking for a nice set to play. This product fits the bill. Nicely made, the 18" is a good size. I would recommend this set to anyone that is looking for a very reasonably priced backgammon set.

I kind of knew what I was getting here. My son never played it before though. What surprised me was the quality. It's very nice. I like the game because it's simple and casual. The case makes it easy to carry around as well. I might take it with me on my next airplane flight. Quick delivery again from Amazon.

The game comes in a modern briefcase that is enclosed in a nice sturdy soft black leather with white stitching and contains metal latch, the inside is a type of medium grey felt that has stitched white and black leather triangles. Not the most sturdy box but it did hold up when dropped a few times. The playing pieces are about an inch round and they are nice and light, a pair of black and white dice are included along with a single doubling cube dice to up the betting stakes. Instructions and two black leather dice cups complete the set. Overall this is a really nice looking set and would make a great gift for ages 10 and up.

This is a large backgammon set, that folds up into a nice leather-looking case. While it has nice leather stitching, and the pieces seem to be of decent quality, it still strikes me as an 'executive gift'. Meaning those things you'd never buy yourself, but see lining the isles around christmas time. The things that make you say, oh my cousin Bob sure loves Backgammon, I bet he'd love this classy looking set. It has all the qualities that should make it a good set, but it doesn't feel like it will hold up all that long (ie if you accidentally stepped on it, it'd be done).
Others have noted that the instructions are somewhat lacking, I don't view this as a huge problem, since it's a common game, and you either know how to play, someone you know knows how to play, or you can use google.
